How to Build Banner Ads for AdWords
AdWords is an advertising product from Google that allows you to market your business or product online. You create ads and match the ads to various keywords, or search terms. When Internet users search Google with your keywords, your ads appear. You pay Google every time a person clicks on your ad. Display ads are advertisements with videos, graphics or pictures -- anything besides just basic text. Google AdWords has a built-in program called Display Ad Builder. Use this features to build a banner ad for AdWords.

Log-in to your Google AdWords account. Scroll down to the campaign for which you want to design the new ad. Click on the campaign name.

Click the "Ads" tab at the top of the page, click on "New Ad" and choose "Display Ad Builder." This takes you to the ad gallery.

Scroll through the pages until you find an ad template you want to use. The templates are fully customizable so you can change the logo, background, images and text. You can also upload your own images and logo.

Hover your mouse over the template you like. On the bottom-left of the image appears "Preview Sizes." Click on this link. A pop-up box lists all the display sizes available with that specific ad template. A banner ad is 468 pixels wide by 60 tall, so if this is not listed (as "468x60"), you cannot make a banner ad with that template.

Click the "X" at the top-right corner of the pop-up screen to close it. If you can make a banner ad with that template, click on the template image.

Type in a name for your ad, the headline text and the product description text. Click the color box next to the text, and choose the color you want. Enter the URL to the website you want the ad to link to.

Check the "468x60" box.

Upload a logo if you like. At the bottom of the page, click on the color boxes to select your background colors.

Click "Next" to get a finished preview of your ad.

If you do not have a Google AdWords account, you can sign-up for a free account on the Google Adwords main page.
If you want more ad sizes, check all the appropriate boxes on the right-side of the page.
The Display Ad Builder has a preview box on the right-side of the page. Watch this box to see how your choices affect the look of the ad.
