Applique can also give an item an old fashioned look.

Appliqué is an excellent way to add imaginative or even fanciful touches to clothing, making an ordinary clothing item like a T-shirt into something special. A widely used material for this purpose is fusible web, a synthetic material that comes in rolls. When a piece of fusible web is placed between two pieces of fabric and ironed, it will fuse the fabric together. While traditional appliqué can be difficult and time consuming, fusible web appliqué is a quick and relatively simple process that virtually anyone can do successfully.

Instructions

    • 1

Use scissors to cut out the design you want to use from the fabric. This should be a rectangular shape with a border around the actual design. Cut out a piece of fusible web the same size as the cloth square.

    • 2

Lay the web side of the fusible web on the fabric cutout. Iron over the paper back for a few seconds.

    • 3

Remove the web from the fabric square and peel away the paper. Use the scissors to cut away the border around your design.

    • 4

Lay the design face up – with the web side down – on the place where you want it on the shirt. Iron over the design to fuse the design to the shirt.
