How to Crochet an Anthro Scarflet

How to Crochet an Anthro Scarflet thumbnail
You can crochet a version of the Anthro scarflet.

The scarflet made by Anthropology is a simple small neck warmer type design, with leaf-shaped ends and a narrower strip connecting them. The original Anthropology product was a knit product, and knitters have been able to reproduce the pattern, but if you want to make your own and don't know how to knit, you can crochet one. Remember to use a lightweight yarn to most accurately reproduce the original design. As always, match the hook size to the weight of the yarn.

Instructions

  1. First Leaf Shaped Section

    • 1

Chain three. Single crochet in the third chain. Chain two and turn your work.

    • 2

Work two single crochet stitches, chain two, and turn.

    • 3

Work two single crochet stitches in each stitch, chain two, and turn.

    • 4

Continue this pattern until the piece measures about 4 inches in width. It should take about 10 rows to achieve this size.

    • 5

Decrease the next row by skipping the first stitch. Work a single crochet in each remaining stitch. Chain two and turn.

    • 6

Continue that pattern until the leaf is about 2 1/2 inches in width. This should take approximately six rows to achieve this decrease.

    Middle Section

    • 7

Work a half double crochet in each stitch across. Chain two and turn.

    • 8

Continue that pattern until your section of half double crochet stitches measures 4 inches in length.

    • 9

Work single crochet stitches in each stitch across, chain two and turn. Continue this pattern until this section measures 10 inches in length.

    • 10

Work another section of half double crochet stitches, exactly as you did in section 2, Step 1.

    Second Leaf Shaped Section

    • 11

Work single crochet stitches in the next row. Chain two and turn.

    • 12

Increase the next row by working two single crochet stitches in the first stitch, then a single crochet stitch in each stitch across. Chain two and turn.

    • 13

Continue that pattern until the section measures about 4 inches in length.

    • 14

Decrease the next row by skipping the first stitch and working a single crochet stitch in every stitch across. Chain two and turn.

    • 15

Continue this pattern. Eventually you will reach a row that has two stitches in it. Work a single crochet in the second stitch and finish off.

Tips & Warnings

  • When working the second leaf section, compare it to the first leaf section to ensure uniformity of shape.
