How to Do a Messy Hairstyle for Short-Haired Girls

Using the wrong hair products can ruin your short-hair style.

Fancy hairstyles and up-dos are often shown on girls with long hair, leaving short-hair styles overlooked. With the right products, you can create a messy yet attractive look for short hair. The key is identifying the right products for your hair type, so you avoid using gel or mousse that can weigh down or dry out your hair.

Things You'll Need

• Shampoo
• Conditioner
• Hair gel, glaze or mousse
• Towel
• Comb
• Boar bristle brush -- medium-barrel
• Pomade or wax
• Hairspray

Instructions

1. Wash and condition your hair, using products formulated for your hair type. Use a towel to remove excess moisture.

2. Put a small dab -- or whatever amount is specified on the label -- of glaze, gel or mousse into the palm of your hand, rub your hands together and spread it evenly through your hair with a comb.

3. Dry small sections of your hair at a time, using a boar bristle brush. Lift the hair, and direct the hairdryer's nozzle from the tips of your hair down toward the roots.

4. Apply a bit of pomade or wax, once the hair is dry, and then pinch the ends to piece them out. Then spray lightly with hairspray.

• Purchase the shampoo, conditioner, styling product and hairspray that are right for your hair type. Many shampoos and conditioners are labeled for use on oily, normal or dry hair. For styling, glaze is used on fine hair, gel on thicker hair and mousse on any type. If you are unsure what kind of hair you have, ask your hairstylist.
