How to Do a Bedroom in a Sail Boat Theme

Sailboat decor makes for a peaceful bedroom.

A sail boat theme is a whimsical, relaxing decoration scheme for anyone's bedroom, from an infant all the way up through a seasoned sailor. Choose individual decor items in the nautical color palette of blue, white, red and tan.

Instructions

1. Paint the walls white for a crisp look or navy blue for a cozy den-like bedroom. Use the opposite color as a contrasting color to incorporate as a border or a sailboat stencil on the walls.

2. Hang simple white curtains that look like sails. Install a natural rope tieback on either side to pull the curtains aside during the day. If you need to block out light, install a pull-down room darkening shade behind the curtains.

3. Decorate the walls with paintings or photographs of sailboats. Alternately, you can hang nautical flags or anchor shapes on the walls. Try to include some red frames or decor elements to bring in colors beyond white and blue.

4. Choose light wood furniture with exposed grain to match the color and feel of ropes on sailboats.

5. Select blue and white bedding, ideally with stripes or a nautical pattern, such as anchors or sailboats. Denim bedding works very well with a sailboat theme.

6. Select a lamp with a base shaped and painted like a lighthouse. This beacon of light is how a sailor can find his way home, so it is appropriate to have it as a light in the bedroom, too.

7. Place small sailboat-related accessories on bookshelves and dressers in the room to complete the decor. For example, you could use anchor-shaped bookends, a miniature brass helm as a paper weight or a miniature sailboat in a bottle as a decoration.
