Clean your flat-faced Pekingese’s nose daily to prevent respiratory infections.

The Pekingese is a legendary toy dog breed that derived its name from the ancient Chinese city of Peking. This intelligent and playful dog has a stocky, lion-like countenance and makes an loyal companion pet. Pekingese have short, flat faces, which makes them susceptible to breathing problems. These dogs also have a large wrinkle surrounding the nose area that you should keep clean and dry to prevent bacterial infection. Regular cleaning of your Pekingese’s nose area will prevent it from experiencing additional breathing problems.

Instructions

    • 1

Wipe your dog’s nose with a damp towel every day to get rid of any body fluids that may be present on its nose.

    • 2

Prepare a soap solution by mixing a little water with some antibacterial soap. Dip an ear bud in the soap solution and gently run it all over the wrinkle surrounding your dog’s nose. Run the ear bud horizontally across the wrinkle, to prevent it from accidentally entering your dog’s eye.

    • 3

Gently pat the nose wrinkle dry with a clean and dry towel. Apply a little cornstarch to the tip of a clean ear bud and run it across the wrinkle. The cornstarch absorbs any moisture that may be present and ensures the area surrounding your dog’s nose is moisture-free.

Tips & Warnings

  • Examine your dog’s nose regularly for signs of respiratory infection. Consult your vet if your dog’s nose appears rough and scaly, has pigment loss or if your dog sneezes persistently or has a nasal discharge.
