How to Display Quilts in Glass

How to Display Quilts in Glass thumbnail
Displaying your quilt under glass protects it from wear and tear.

Quilts can provide warmth, be given as ceremonial gifts, such as those shared by American Indians, or be used for decoration. Quilts can be designed to tell a story or to share memories, through the use of screen printing of pictures or documents. Whatever the purpose of your quilt, a glass enclosure will let you display it while protecting it from wear and tear.

Instructions

    • 1

Store your quilt in a glass quilt chest. Fold your quilt neatly, showing as much of the delicate pattern and design work as possible, and place it inside the chest to protect it from wear and tear. The sides of the chest are glass, so your friends and family can enjoy the beauty of your work, and you don't have to worry about it getting dirty or damaged.

    • 2

Frame smaller quilt pieces and hang them on the wall. Treat your quilts like works of art by mounting them to a backer board and framing them under glass. This method works best for smaller pieces, such as 8 1/2 by 11 inches or 10 by 12 inches.

Spice up a coffee table by displaying your favorite quilt under the glass top. Remove the glass top and drape your quilt over the table, folding any excess material under the quilt. Place the coffee table's glass top directly on top of the quilt. If your quilt is too big and raises the top of the table too high when folded under, you can let it drape over the edges of the table.

Tips & Warnings

  • Even when displaying your quilts under glass, it is still a good idea to clean them regularly to help keep them looking their best.
