Make a bouquet out of pastel-hued balloons.

Balloon bouquets make simple and eye-catching baby shower decorations. If you're planning a baby shower on a tight budget, a balloon bouquet will give the celebration space a pop of festive color without breaking the bank. Creating bouquets with balloons instead of flowers will save you money, and the outcome will be just as impressive. Customize the look of the decor by using pastel pink or blue balloons, or stick with gender-neutral green and yellow colors.

Instructions

    • 1

Choose the balloons you want to use in the bouquet. Pick all pink or all blue balloons, or use a candy-inspired mixture of colors for a vibrant look. Use balloons featuring whimsical shapes, such as baby bottles, rattles, shoes, pacifiers, teddy bears and rubber duckies.

    • 2

Inflate latex or Mylar balloons with a helium tank, or buy them already inflated for convenience. Use at least 10 balloons to make a full arrangement.

    • 3

Tie long pieces of curling ribbon to the bottoms of the helium-filled balloons. Choose the ribbon length according to how tall you want the balloon bouquet to be when placed on table. Pick ribbon colors that coordinate with the overall look of the arrangement.

    • 4

Wash a large, empty baby food jar with warm, soapy water and thoroughly dry it with a cloth. Fill the jar with small candies, such as pink or blue jelly beans or gumballs, to create an anchor for the balloon bouquet. Use a baby bottle filled with treats as another option.

    • 5

Place the anchor in the center of the party table. Tie the balloons' ribbons around the rim of the jar or bottle to create the bouquet. Place one large helium-filled balloon featuring a baby-inspired shape in the center, and surround it with plain, pastel-hued balloons as one arrangement idea.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you don't have access to a helium tank, blow the balloons up yourself. Attach the bottoms of the inflated balloons to wooden dowels using ribbon or transparent tape. Fill a terracotta plant pot or another decorative vessel with a cut-to-fit block of florist's foam. Insert the dowels into the foam to create a colorful balloon bouquet.
