How to Fix Static on a Conference Bridge
More companies are utilizing online conference calls and chat. In addition, online seminars have become a necessity for organizations that hire independent contractors. Training often is done using a "webinar," which is a sort of combination conference call and instant messaging service. The word is a hybrid of "Web" and "seminar." Participants dial into a special telephone number that connects to a conference bridge, which is specialized equipment that links telephone lines. With many people essentially sharing one conversation, it is important to not have any static that could prevent you from effectively taking part in the call.

1
Instruct all participants to mute their phones. Unmute phones only when speaking. Eliminate all speaker phones and cell phones. Use landline phones for clearest connection.
-
2
Eliminate "white noise " -- which is caused by electronic components too close to each other -- on a conference call by creating proper spacing between components. Allow at least six to eight inches between devices. You might even need to allow several feet between your phone and a computer.

Verify that all of your cords are securely connected to your computer, phone system, modem and wall output. Check your headset for static. This is applicable if you're hearing static but no one else hears it. Take the call out of headset mode and use the handset to eliminate static.

Contact your Internet service provider if the aforementioned steps do not resolve the static issue. Purchase another telephone if the problem is not with your ISP.

Tips & Warnings
Allow no more than the maximum number of participants your provider can handle per call. One person over the limit can create problems on the conference bridge.
