1
Start with light-enough hair that black spots will stand out; if you have dark-brown or black hair, this will mean prebleaching your hair before you get started.
-
2
Read the instructions carefully for your boxed black hair-dye kit. Instructions differ from brand-to-brand.
-
-
3
Put on your plastic gloves, and drape an old towel around your neck to protect your skin and clothing from getting messy.
-
4
Mix the hair dye's ingredients according to the directions on the package. Stir it in a mixing bowl with the applicator brush until the mixture is smooth.
-
5
Use the brush to carefully draw black spots on your hair with the hair dye. You can practice on a paper towel first if you want to make sure you have a steady hand. Start with a light touch, and fill it in once you're sure you have your circular spots right.
-
6
Wait until the hair dye is finished processing. Set a timer so you know when to wash the dye out. Usually, this part takes between 15 and 30 minutes.
-
7
Rinse the dye from your hair until the water runs clear.

Tips & Warnings
Never leave the dye on for longer than the box's instructions say.
Bleach can cause severe damage to your hair; you can get a professional to bleach your hair, especially if your hair is already frizzy.
