Kindle DX offers users the ability to read PDF documents such as professional or scientific papers.

The Amazon Kindle DX is an e-book reader developed by Amazon.com that allows users to shop, download, and read e-books, newspapers, and magazines. Users of the Kindle DX can also access PDF documents via Amazon's 3G Whispernet wireless connectivity, allowing them to store and read personal and professional documents on a Kindle.

Instructions

    • 1

Purchase scientific papers from the Kindle store on Amazon.com, or transfer your own scientific papers directly to your kindle in PDF format via Whispernet. Amazon has a wide variety of scientific documents for sale if you are currently researching a topic. If you have PDF files stored on a personal computer, you can load them onto your Kindle DX by simply emailing them to your personalized Kindle address pre-assigned by Amazon.

    • 2

Select the file name of the scientific paper you wish to read. Go to the "Home Screen" on your Kindle DX and browse through the list of titles until you find the scientific paper you wish to view. Open the document by scrolling over the name and clicking on the title, which will allow you to open the document to the title page.

    • 3

Use zoom and pan features to enlarge and navigate through the document. The Kindle DX allows you to read text of a PDF document, and will zoom into an area of text by up to 300 percent, allowing you to review small details, including graphics, tables, or illustrations commonly found in scientific papers.

Convert PDF documents to a Kindle format when sending them to your Kindle DX from your computer. Some features of the Kindle DX, such as annotations or read-to-me, cannot be used with PDF documents. In order to use these features, you can convert the PDF by writing the word "convert" in the subject area of your PDF upload email. The PDF document will then be automatically converted into the Kindle format and sent directly to your device via Whispernet.
