How to Make Picnic Table Benches Comfortable for a Wedding
A backyard wedding may be an informal affair, but providing comfortable seating for your guests is always important. You can rent chairs for the occasion, but if you have picnic benches available, you can dress them up to make them both comfortable and festive. These simple covers require no sewing and are easily removed when the wedding is over to return your picnic benches to their original use. Your guests will appreciate the added comfort.

- 1-inch foam padding
- Serrated knife
- Measuring tape
- Decorator fabric
- Scissors
- Staple gun
- 1-inch-wide ribbon

Measure the length and width of the picnic bench. Cut foam padding to the dimensions using a serrated knife. Cut fabric to the dimensions of the bench, adding 3 inches all around.

Lay the fabric on a flat surface with the wrong side facing up. Center the length of foam on top of the fabric.

Turn the picnic bench upside down. Place it on top of the foam, being sure that both are centered on the fabric.

Wrap the fabric to the bottom side of the bench along one long side. Hold it in place as you staple the fabric to the underside of the bench. Begin at the center and work outward to each end. Pull the opposite edge of the fabric to the bottom of the bench and staple it as you did the first side. Fold the end pieces of fabric under, mitering the corners as if wrapping a package. Staple them in position, then turn the bench upright.

Cut four lengths of ribbon, 36 inches long each. Tie the ribbons into bows. Staple the bows along the back edge of the bench for a decorative look.

Tips & Warnings
If possible, have an assistant help you turn the bench and align the foam and fabric.
Use the same fabric or coordinating fabric to make a tablecloth for the picnic table. Arrange refreshments and the wedding cake on the table.
