How to Make Wooden Columns in a Room Look Decorated for a Party

Decorate your home for a party.

Nothing livens up a party or celebration like decorations. If you have wooden columns in your house, you can take advantage of this architectural feature when decorating for your next party or get-together.

Instructions

Candy-Cane Columns

1. Purchase different colors of paper party streamers.

2. Stand on a chair or step ladder while holding your streamers and tape to reach as high up on the column as possible.

3. Tape one end of one of the streamer to the top of the column, then wind the streamer around the column as far down as it will go so it looks like the stripes on a candy cane. If the streamer doesn't reach all the way down the column, tape another streamer of the same color to the end of the previous one. Continue winding the streamer all the way down to the end of the column.

4. Repeat this with another color of streamer, beginning at the top of the column and winding your way down to the bottom. Be sure to space the streamers evenly to continue your candy cane. Repeat with as many different colors as you like on each column.

Balloons

1. Inflate several balloons of different colors. If you prefer, use only one or two colors -- it's totally up to you.

2. Tape the balloons to the columns at random intervals. You can use single-sided tape on the end of each balloon to tape it to the column. Alternatively, you can use double-sided tape on the side of each balloon.

Banners

1. Create or purchase a special banner specifically for the occasion. For example, if Mike is having a birthday party, you might create a banner that says "Happy 30th Mike!" Create at least one banner for each column.

2. Attach at least one banner to each column, with the top of the banner at the top of the column and the bottom at the bottom of the column. Party guests will have to turn their heads sideways just a bit to read the banners. Use two banners for each column -- one on either side -- so people can read the banner messages from wherever they are in the room.
