How to Seal Sump Pumps
With the purpose of keeping basements dry, sump pumps are essential maintenance components for any home or business. While sump pumps work by pumping excess water out of basements, home and business owners can bolster the effectiveness of their pumps by correctly sealing the sump pit cover. In sealing the optional cover, the sump pump can be more effective in dealing with flooding situations. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Unplug the sump pump. When working, you may need to cut some pipes on the sump pump so it is necessary to ensure there is no power on.
-
2
Fit the sump pump base plate onto the pump. If the discharge pipe gets in the way of the cover, cut the pipe to fit with the sump pump base plate. If your sump pump has a liner, put the base plate underneath it.

3
Lay the sump pump pit half cover over the base plate. Measure where the discharge pipe comes through the base plate and contacts the pit cover. Mark this area and use the utility knife to cut a hole in the pit cover for the discharge pipe to pass through. The sump pump pit cover has two sections: the solid half cover, which you are using in this step, and the see-through half cover for viewing the pump. The latter section will be installed later.
-
4
Put the sump pump pit solid half cover in place and feed the discharge pipe through the hole you made for it. Use a screwdriver to tighten the half cover onto the base plate. Seal the half cover to the base plate and around the discharge pipe with sealing tape. Ensure there is no moisture on the sump pump when you are doing this.
-
5
Set the sump pump pit half cover with the viewing window onto the machine. Use a screwdriver to affix the cover to the sump pump and seal this section as well. With the complete pit cover installed, the sump pump is sealed.
