1
Brush your hair to get rid of any tangles. Section a portion of hair at the top of your head that goes from ear to ear, and back to around the middle of the top of your head.
-
2
Using your fingers, divide the portion of hair into three even sections. You should have one piece from the middle, which will be referred to as piece A, one piece from the left side of your head, which will be referred to as piece B, and one from the right, which will be referred to as piece C. Keep hold of all three sections at all times during braiding.

3
Hold piece A and wrap it over piece B, so that you have a kind of "X" formation in the hair. Pull the two pieces tight. Wrap piece B, which is now in the middle, over piece C. Pull the hair tight.
-
4
Keep hold of the hair you've begun to braid in one hand, and with your other hand section off another piece of hair from the left side of your head. Add this piece of hair to piece A, which is currently on the left, to create a bigger left side piece.

5
Wrap piece C, which is currently in the middle, over piece A, which is currently on the left, and pull the hair tight. Keep hold of the hair you have braided in one hand, and with your other hand, section off another piece of hair from the right side of your head. Add this section of hair to piece B, which is currently on the right. Wrap piece A, which is back to being the current middle piece of hair, over piece B, which is currently on the right.
-
6
Continue to repeat the last two steps until you have all of your hair in the braid. When you get to the end of your hair, secure it with a hair tie.
