How to Add a .Srt to a .Divx on a Mac
Many multimedia players for your Mac computer, including native applications such as Quicktime, MPlayer and iTunes, can overlay subtitles onto a video playback image. There are several different subtitles standards, including ".srt" files. The benefit of a ".srt" subtitle file is that it can exist externally to the actual video file. You can load subtitle files into your media player manually but a more efficient automatic solution is to rename the ".srt" so it matches the ".divx" video file's title.
Instructions
-
-
1
Open the folder on your Mac containing the ".divx" video file and the folder containing the ".srt" file.
-
2
Drag and drop the ".srt" file into the same folder as the ".divx" file. The two files must be in the same folder for your media player application to load them at the same time.
-
-
3
Click the ".srt" file once to highlight it, then press the "Return" key on your Mac's keyboard. The file's title becomes editable.
-
4
Type a new title for the ".srt" file so it is identical to the title of the ".divx" file. Do not change the file extension, however. Click outside the ".srt" file to finish editing its title. You will then have two files with the same name, in the same folder. For example, "example-video.divx" and "example-video.srt."

5
Double-click the ".divx" file to open it in your default media player application. The media player application will automatically add the ".srt" file to your ".divx" video.

Tips & Warnings
The media player may need subtitles switching on to automatically display the ".srt" file. Consult the instructions for your media player application for details on how to activate subtitles.
The benefit of using external subtitle files is that your original video does not need re-encoding, and you can add additional languages simply by adding new ".srt" files to the same folder as your video file.
