Instructions

1
Buy seeds or take them out of an ornamental orange. If you obtain the seeds from an orange, be sure to wash them thoroughly.
-
2
Select the seeds most likely to grow. To do so, place the seeds in a glass of water. Those that sink to the bottom and are average to large in size are best.
-
-
3
Wrap the seeds in a paper towel, and then place the towel and seeds in a plastic baggie. Since citrus seeds require a dormant period to grow, place the baggie in the vegetable bin of your refrigerator for three to four weeks.
-
4
Remove the seeds from the fridge, and soak them in water for a few hours.
-
5
Place each seed in a separate container filled with African viloet potting mix or potting soil that will provide good drainage.
-
6
Place the containers in a warm, sunny location. It may take several weeks before you notice any growth.
-
7
Water when the soil is dry to the touch.

Tips & Warnings
Keep the plant in a cool, dry location -- 60 to 70 degrees is ideal -- over the winter months to help avoid insect infestation. Be sure to check the plant often for aphids, spider mites and similar pests, especially in humid climates. If you cannot find African violet potting soil or mix, select a soil with a lot of humus. Do not overwater.
