How to Clean the Venting on a Laptop
An overheating laptop can slow down your system, cause your computer to shut down and even damage the internal components over time. Other than using your laptop computer on a pillow, carpet or anything else soft, overheating is primarily caused by dirty laptop vents that are clogged with dust and other debris. Cleaning your laptop vents regularly can extend the life of your laptop and prevent overheating.

1
Power off your laptop computer and remove the power cable.
-
2
Use the compressed air to blast three to four quick shots of air directly into the venting. Be sure to hold the nozzle of the compressed air can at least 6 inches away from the vent to prevent moisture from building up in the vent.

3
Inspect the venting for any lodged debris that can't be removed with compressed air. Carefully remove it with it your fingers or tweezers, if needed.
-
4
Power on your computer and listen to see if your computer is running quieter as a result of the cleaning.
