How to Knit an Infant Headband

Use up your odd bits of leftover yarn by making an infant headband, which is quick to make. Knit in a worsted-weight yarn on smaller needles, so the finished piece can stretch to fit and stay snug on the baby’s head. Or, knit the headband in a solid color. Decorate the headband if desired with a knit flower or embroidery.

Instructions

    • 1

Cast on 70 stitches onto one double-point needle. Divide evenly over three needles, and join to begin working in the round.

    • 2

Skip the first stitch, and knit the second stitch, leaving the stitch on the left-hand needle. Knit the first stitch, then slide both stitches off of the left-hand needle. Purl two stitches. Repeat to the end of the round.

    • 3

Knit two stitches, then purl two stitches and repeat to the end of the round.

    • 4

Repeat rounds one and two until the headband measures 2 inches.

    • 5

Bind off all stitches. Cut the yarn, and thread the tail end of the yarn onto a tapestry needle. Weave in the ends on the wrong side of the piece.
