How to Get Copyright Permission for YouTube

If you've found footage on YouTube that would be perfect for your next project, you'll probably want to get copyright use permission to use the footage if you'll be showing your project to an audience. While many users are under the impression that YouTube owns the right to distribute the material, it is actually the creator's copyright that you'll need to seek.
How To Get Copyright Permission For YouTube Videos
Step 1
Log in to your YouTube Account. If you do not yet have an account, click on the "Sign Up" link at the top right-hand corner of the main YouTube page.
Step 2
Navigate to the video that you wish to use information from, and look to the right-hand side of the video—you'll see the username of the person who created the video. Click on the username to be brought to the creator's personal YouTube page.
Step 3
Click on the "Send Message" link located on the left-hand side of the creator's video page. This message can be found under the "Connect To" section of the page.
Step 4
Fill in the subject field, and then leave a message for the user asking if you can have permission to use the video he/she shot. Be sure to include what you plan to use the video for and how it will be distributed.
Step 5
Wait for a reply before using the video. If you have permission, you can take the video from YouTube; however, asking for a copy to be sent to you could help with any editing processes you may need to undertake.
