How to Decoupage Fabric on Galvanized Buckets
Once called the art of Japanning, decoupage has been seen in various forms since before the 13th Century and was very common during the Victorian Era. Crafters continue to decoupage as a form of decoration and artwork. It is based on the principle of applying paper artwork to fabric, glass or metal. Practitioners use decoupage glaze as well as lacquer to seal prints in place.

3
Cut out prints or trim pictures down to the appropriate size.

4
Lay out newspapers to form a workspace along with the clean unused paintbrushes.

Arrange the prints or fabrics you selected to decorate with on the bucket. Glue them into place by dipping the brush first in water, then in polyvinyl acetate glue. Use your fingertips to make sure all the air bubbles are brushed out from beneath the print before the glue dries.

Wipe away extra glue from the edges using a damp cloth. Secure the edges as you go. Allow the project to dry thoroughly.

Apply several layers of decoupage glaze over the print. Let the project dry between each layer.

9
Continue to add layers of glaze until the project has the finish you desire.

Tips & Warnings
The more coats of glaze, the more the print will look painted on rather than glazed on.
Make a few copies of your print before starting the project in case you have to start over again.
Apply glue and decoupage glaze in a well ventilated area.
