How to Convert TurboTax to T08

How to Convert TurboTax to T08 thumbnail
H&R Block provides tax preparation software.

You can import your TuboTax return information into TaxCut from H&R Block, which will then save the return as a ".t08," or TaxCut 2008 file, if you're using the 2008 version of the software. If you want to switch from using TurboTax to the H&R Block product -- which changed from TaxCut in 2008 to H&R Block at Home in 2009 -- you need to import the TaxCut data. Once the data is imported into TaxCut, it will be converted and saved into the TaxCut format.

Instructions

    • 1

Open your H&R Block tax software. Click "Start a Return."

    • 2

Look for the Import Last Year's Data menu and click "Open." Browse to the location of your TurboTax 2008 return, which will be in the ".tax" file format. Double-click the file to open it in the H&R Block software.

    • 3

Type a name for the return that you're importing and then click "Save and Continue." Click on the "Reports" menu and click "Review Last Year's Data" to see what was imported from TurboTax.

    • 4

Complete the return in the H&R Block software and then save it. The file is saved in the TaxCut format appropriate for the year of the return you're doing. To get the file name ending with ".t08," you must be doing a 2008 return using TaxCut 2008.

Tips & Warnings

  • Note that the file extension is dependent on the year of the return, so 2008 returns are ".t08" and 2009 returns are ".t09," for example.
