How to Make a Red Clown Nose

A red nose is a characteristic clown trait.

A large, red nose is an essential part of any clown costume. If you or your child is planning on being a clown for Halloween, a round red nose is a must. While many store-bought clown costumes come with noses, some do not, so you'll need to make one yourself. You'll also need to create the nose if you're designing the clown costume from scratch. Make the nose out of foam so that you'll be able to breath with ease while wearing it.

Things You'll Need

• 1-inch, 1½-inch, or 2-inch red foam ball
• Craft knife

Instructions

1. Buy a 1-inch, 1½-inch or 2-inch red foam ball, depending on the size of the person who'll be wearing it. Buy a ball that has a breathable, sponge-like material, rather than polystyrene.

2. Cut a 1-inch horizontal line into the middle of the foam nose using a craft knife. Make the cut halfway into the sponge, being careful not to slice all the way through.

3. Place the nose onto the person who'll be wearing it ensure that it fits securely and will not fall off. Create a slightly deeper cut into the foam ball if the original hole is too shallow for the wearer's nose. Make adjustments until the nose fits snugly.
