How to Make a Household Rule Chart for Children

A strategically placed rule chart could bring cohesion to your household and it could save you the energy of constantly reminding your kids about how to behave. The chart can also help provide the children with an understanding of what is expected of them before they break a rule. Some parents even list on the chart the consequences of breaking the rules, further diverting the children from getting out of hand.

Instructions

    • 1

Number each rule on a blank piece of paper or on a computer word processor. Write a rule for the corresponding number.

    • 2

Cut out a piece of decorative cardboard paper that is three inches wider and three inches longer than the list paper. Have your children draw onto it a picture.

    • 3

Have the children decorate the rule chart with stickers and small drawings. Cut a slit about four inches from each corner of the cardboard paper.

    • 4

Insert the rule chart corners into the slits that were cut on the cardboard paper. Place the rule chart onto a refrigerator and then secure it with magnets.

    • 5

Secure pictures of the children onto the rule chart with magnets so the kids remember that the chart is designed for them.
