Many young boys enjoy dressing up as soldiers in camouflage clothing. Whether you need a costume for a dress-up theme party or for an outdoor event such as paintball or air-softing, a soldier costume can be created by using fabric paint to block print on neutral colored clothing to create a camouflage effect.

Things You'll Need:

  • White Craft Glue
  • Fabric Paint
  • Thick Cardboard
  • Cotton Or Twill Jacket
  • Cotton Or Twill Pants Or Sweat Pants
  • Craft Foam
  • Boots Or Dark-Colored Shoes
  • Army Netting
  • Plain T-Shirt
  • Cotton Army Style Cap
  • Face Paint

Wear a plain T-shirt as a base in a neutral color such as beige or khaki. Avoid anything with a large logo or image.

Customize loose-fitting cotton or twill pants and a shirt or jacket by block printing them with a camouflage pattern. Choose khaki or neutral-colored items.

Make printing blocks by cutting craft foam into random shapes. Glue the shapes to pieces of thick cardboard with white craft glue. Load the shapes with fabric paint in shades of green and brown. Brush or sponge the paint onto the foam printing block.

Place newspaper or cardboard inside the item of clothing you are printing on to prevent the paint from bleeding through. Print one side and allow it to dry before turning over and printing on the reverse. Overlap the colors for a more realistic effect.

Customize a cotton army-style cap by printing it in the same way. Wear large boots or dark-colored shoes.

Apply face paint in shades of green and brown to create a camouflage effect. Smear it on with your fingers or dab it on with a damp makeup sponge. Add army netting to your hat to further disguise your face.
