How to Make a Dress for an Egg
There are a surprising number of reasons why you might need to make a dress for an egg. Elaborate Easter decorations may evolve past abstract designs or simple patterns. High school students participating in the classic child responsibility lesson may want to dress their temporary "child." New Year's confetti eggs may beckon for a fancy dress to match the festive mood. Regardless of your reason for needing an egg dress, you can achieve it by applying a glitter frock or fashioning one out of paper.

Glitter Dress
-
1
Cover your work surface in newspaper. Arrange craft glue, a narrow-tipped paintbrush and a bowl of fine glitter on the newspaper.
-
2
Place your thumb under the wide end of the egg and a finger on top. Hold the egg in your nondominant hand so you can paint with your dominant hand.
-
-
3
Dip the paintbrush in craft glue. Paint a horizontal ring near the narrow end of the egg, about 3/4 to 1 inch away from the top. Paint a slightly wavy, horizontal ring around the widest part of the shell, near the bottom of the egg. Paint all the space between the two lines.
-
4
Place the egg in the bowl of glitter. Roll the egg in the glitter until you cover the painted section thoroughly. Leave the egg in the glitter to dry for about 30 minutes.
-
5
Remove the egg from the glitter. Dust loose glitter off of the areas where you did not apply glue.
Paper Dress
-
6
Cut down the side of a cupcake liner with scissors to the bottom of the paper cup. Cut the flat bottom out of the liner.
-
7
Turn the bottomless liner upside-down. Wrap it around the middle of the egg.
-
8
Apply a narrow band of colorful paper tape around the center of the egg at the edge of the liner. The tape is the top of the dress, and the liner is the skirt.
-
9
Add short arches of tape on opposing sides of the egg to indicate dress straps, if desired.
Embellishment
-
10
Draw a pair of crescent-shaped eyelids with radiating fringe eyelashes on black paper. Alternatively, draw lips on red paper. Either illustration should be dime-sized or smaller.
-
11
Draw a small bow alongside your chosen facial illustration.
-
12
Cut the illustrations out with scissors.
-
13
Brush the back of the paper bow with craft glue. Press the bow to the egg on the top, straight edge of the glitter or tape.
-
14
Brush the back of the facial illustration with glue. Press it to the egg in a position that seems appropriate.

Tips & Warnings
Punch eyelash or lip illustrations out of paper with a shaped craft punch, if available.
Use multiple liners to create a layered dress or to wrap the egg that is too wide for only one liner to cover.
Do not apply glue to an egg that is meant to be eaten.
