How to Crochet an Amigurumi Body
When creating the body of an Amigurumi, which is essentially a small Japanese crocheted animal, the type of animal does not really matter, as the final touches can be added after the body is created. These specific instructions are for the body of the mouse; however, there are no “mouse features” added. Therefore, this Amigurumi body can be made into any animal you like. Be sure to choose an appropriate color of yarn to go with the type of animal you would like to create from this body.
Things You'll Need

- Yarn, 4-ply (color will vary)

1
Chain together three stitches by making a slip knot and sliding it onto the crochet hook. Then, yarn over and pull the yarn through the loop on the hook. Repeat this part two more times to make a “Chain three.”
-
2
Join the chain three by putting the hook through the third chain, yarning over and pulling the yarn through the first loop.
-
-
3
Start the first round by completing six single crochets through the loop. Do not join at the end of the first round since this is a continual round.
-
4
Make two single crochets in each single crochet already created on the round. There will now be a total of 12 single crochets. This completes round two.
-
5
Complete a single crochet in each single crochet on the round to start round three. There will be 12 single crochets in this round.
-
6
Alternate between one single crochet and two single crochets going around the six stitches for round four. This will create 18 total single crochets for this round.
-
7
Make one single crochet in each of the 18 single crochets around the round. This will be repeated for round five through 11 (seven times).
-
8
Make nine single crochet decreases for round 12. A single crochet decrease is competed by inserting the hook into the first stitch, yarn over and pull the yarn through. There should now be two loops on the hook. Insert the hook into the next stitch, yarn over and pull the yarn through. There should now be three loops on the hook. Yarn over and pull the yarn through all three loops on the hook. That will complete a single crochet decrease.
-
9
Stuff the Amigurumi body with the polyester fiberfill. You can use as much or as little of the fiberfill as you prefer.
-
10
Complete two more single crochet decreases, remove the hook and cut off the tail. You should leave about 6 to 8 inches on the tail.
-
11
Weave the tail yarn through the stitches using a tapestry needle, pulling the yarn tight as you go along the opening. Keep going until the opening is closed.
-
12
Secure the end with a knot, then push the needle through the center of the body, pull it out and cut off the end. Repeat with the other end of the body. The Amigurumi body is now ready to have specific details added.
