1
Wash and towel dry the hair.

2
Comb the hair backwards with your right hand while you collect all of the hair in your left hand. If you are left-handed, comb the hair backwards with your left hand while you collect the hair in your right hand.

-
3
Separate the hair into two even sections with your tail comb.
-
4
Twist the section of hair on your right into a tight coil by moving your index finger in a 360 degree, clockwise motion around the hair. Twist it until you feel the hair tighten and threaten to buckle and hold the coil. Hold the coil tightly in place while you repeat this process on the other section of hair.
-
5
Cross the section of coiled hair on the right over the section of coiled hair on the left so the right section now becomes the left section and visa versa. Pull the braid tight.
-
6
Repeat Steps 4 and 5 to continue the tightly coiled rope braid down the length of your hair.
-
7
Place all of the hair tightly in one hand when you reach 1 inch from the bottom of the hair. Place an elastic band around all of the hair to secure the rope braid.
