Build a church replica from cardboard, give its roof a mail slot and then glitz it up for your wedding.

Whether your dream wedding will be at church or you simply like the church theme, make a church cardholder for your wedding. Cardholders are an important part of the wedding because they hold the special messages from your friends and family. The mail slot in the roof of the church cardholder gives your guests a central location to "mail" their cards instead of chasing the couple of honor around the wedding venue.

  • Utility knife
  • Hot glue gun

Instructions

    • 1

Make the roof of the church. Cut a white cardboard sheet to 16-by-16-inch dimensions using a utility knife. The width of the ceiling is wider than the box length to adjust for the bend in the roof. Bend the roof in half to make the crease of the roof.

    • 2

Insert the side edges of the roof to the side edges of a 16-by-12-by-6-inch white cardboard box. Glue the edges of the roof to the inside edges of the cardboard box using a hot glue gun. The crease in the roof points upwards.

    • 3

Cut two isosceles triangles with one 12-inch side and two 8-inch sides using a utility knife and ruler. The triangles should be the same size as the openings of the roof. Glue the back edges of the triangles to the exterior edges of the roof.

    • 4

Cut a cross pattern with a 4-inch-height and a 3-inch-width from a white cardboard sheet using a utility knife. Glue the back of the cross to the front of the triangle roof using a hot glue gun.

    • 5

Decorate the cardboard box, using markers. Make spear-shaped windows along both sides of the box. Color the insides of the windows using a chrome metallic marker to simulate reflections. Draw a large gray door on the front side of the box. Draw a smaller black cross inside the cardboard cross.

    • 6

Glue small silver ribbons along the top edges of the cardboard box using a hot glue gun. Brush craft glue on the top of the roof. Sprinkle silver glitter on top of glue. Let the glue dry for two hours. Shake off the excess glitter.

    • 7

Cut a 1/4-inch by 8-inch hole in the center of the crease of the roof. The hole will be used to insert cards into the church cardholder.

Tips & Warnings

  • Warm the hot glue gun for three minutes.

  • Change the dimensions of the cardholder to the desired size.

  • The nozzle of a hot glue gun is extremely hot and burns skin on contact.
