How to Make a Front Opening in a Pajama Pants
A front opening is desirable in men’s pants, and some women also may find it easier to put on pajama pants if there is a front opening in the pants. Making the opening is not difficult, although it will make the pants fit tighter, so cut the opening in loose pajama pants, in adjustable pajama pants or in pants that are about one size too large. Making the opening does not require special sewing skills. If you wish, you can add a button or snap to the pajama pants rather than a Velcro strip.

1
Cut the pants in a vertical line along the front where you want the opening to be. If there is a seam there, rip open the seams with a seam-ripper. If the pants have an elastic waistband and you want the pajamas to keep that elasticity, cut the opening below the elastic.

2
Fold the edges of each side of the fabric under one-eighth of an inch. Iron the seam in place. Fold the seam over an additional one-eighth of an inch and pin it in place with straight pins.

3
Sew the hem in place, removing the pins as you sew. If you cut through the elastic waistband, sew to either side of the opening to keep it from falling out of the waist.
-
4
Cut a strip of Velcro 2 inches long. Place the rough side of the strip on the underside of the left side of the opening. Sew the Velcro strip in place.
-
5
Cut a matching strip from Velcro and sew it to the top side of the right side of the opening. Overlap the two Velcro strips to close the pants.
