How to Attract & Secure Speaking Engagements
Being a public speaker can be a lucrative and rewarding career for the right person. Most people are hesitant to engage in public speaking, but for the right person it can be a fun and worthwhile pursuit. Just like any other job market, however, speaking engagements do not come easily, and you will need to work to develop a reputation and resume as a good speaker if you plan to attract and book multiple speaking engagements.

1
Create a speaker sheet for yourself, which is like a resume or a product spec sheet, to present to prospective employers. List pertinent information about you and your speaking abilities, such as your contact information, presentation topics, past clients, testimonials, and any expertise you have, such as degrees in a certain field or books written on a topic.
-
2
Speak for free if you are unable to find any paid speaking engagements, especially if you are just starting out. It is often the case that there are people in the audience who might wish you to hire you for other conferences or workplaces.

-
3
List yourself on speaker directories. Event organizations may consult such a directory, looking for potential speakers.
-
4
Ask for referrals from both existing clients and from the audience, while you are speaking.
-
5
Create a website, a Twitter feed and other social media platform accounts. These platforms will help you get noticed and signal to potential clients that you have a following and are an expert within your niche.
-
6
Continually update and improve your presentations. Word of mouth and reputation are important for securing speaking engagements, and part of that is having compelling and appealing presentation materials.
