How to Get a Stamped Handprint of a Baby

How to Get a Stamped Handprint of a Baby thumbnail
Even toddlers enjoy handprint craft projects.

Don’t capture your child’s handprint just once. Repeat the project at least once a year, beginning when she's a baby. A stamped handprint is an intimate illustration of a child’s physical size. Schedule the project after her nap time when she's rested, fed and in a happy, cooperative mood. Plan to get a little messy, as she may have her own idea about where she should place her inked hand. Dress her and yourself accordingly. Use a nontoxic, water-based paint.

Instructions

    • 1

Place a stack of rags or paper towels within reach. You may need a quick cleanup.

    • 2

Brush paint over the bottom of one of the baby’s hands, beginning with her fingers and working to her palm. Depending on her age, she might be more cooperative if you apply the paint with your hand instead of a paintbrush.

    • 3

Open her hand gently and press her paint-covered palm and fingers onto a clean sheet of paper.

    • 4

Remove her hand quickly after pressing to avoid smearing the picture. Repeat the process several times using new paper to get the best handprint.

    • 5

Wipe her hand clean with a moist baby wipe to remove the paint.
