1
Remove any labels on the tie. On the back side of the tie, near the bottom, there is usually a label. Snip it off with your scissors.
-
2
Lay the tie, wrong side up, on a flat surface in a well-lit area.

3
Create pleats in the tie, starting at the bottom (fat end). Measure approximately an inch from the bottom of the tie. Pinch the material to create a crease and pin it to the tie. The pin should go through the underside of the tie and the pleat, but not be visible if the tie was turned over.
-
4
Continue creating pleats approximately 1-inch in length. The pleats should encompass three-quarters of the tie. The skinny end should be left unpleated. To keep the pleats in place, you can run a hot iron over the tie.
-
5
Grab the first pleat between your fingers and place it under the needle of the sewing machine. Run the pleat horizontally through the sewing machine. Continue with each pleat until secure. If you do not have a sewing machine, you can hand sew the pleats with a needle and thread.

6
Sew a button onto the fat end of the tie and create a button hole on the skinny end. Slip the tie around your neck and fasten the button to create a stylish necktie necklace.
