How to Make a PVC Room Divider Frame
Making a room divider frame with PVC pipe is a building project suitable for beginners. Cutting and assembling the pipe is not difficult, but don’t think you can join the PVC panels together with hinges. Get creative with attachments as you make a three-panel (or more) PVC frame for a room divider. The finished frame is more lightweight than wood and works as a free-standing support for fabric, beading and decorative insert embellishments. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Measure and cut six 6-foot-long sections of 1-inch PVC pipe. Measure and cut six 24-inch sections of 1-inch PVC pipe. The 6-foot-long pipes are for the vertical room divider supports and equal the height of the room divider. The 24-inch sections are the horizontal supports for each of the three PVC panels that make up the room divider frame.

2
Spread one-part epoxy adhesive on both openings of a 1-inch-diameter PVC elbow fitting. Spread the same adhesive onto one end of a 6-foot pipe and a 24-inch pipe. Fit the glued end of each pipe into one of the elbow openings.

Follow the process in Step 2 to make another L-shaped section of PVC pipe. Join the two sections at the open ends with an elbow fitting to create a rectangle. The rectangle is one panel of the room divider. Follow the process to make two additional PVC panels.

4
Measure and mark the center point of the two vertical pipes on one PVC frame. Measure and mark the same two pipes 16 inches from the top and 16 inches from the bottom of the frame. Measure and mark the same measurements on the right-side vertical pipe of the second PVC panel. Measure and mark the same measurements on the left-side vertical pipe of the third PVC panel.
-
5
Drill small holes straight through both walls of the pipe at each mark. These holes are the attachment openings for the connector cords. Prop the PVC panel with the drilled holes on both vertical pipes against the wall. Prop the PVC panel with the drilled holes on the left vertical support to the right of the standing panel. Prop the PVC panel with the drilled holes on the right vertical support to the left of the first standing panel.

6
Cut six 10-inch-long strands of twine or strong fabric cording, such as satin. Insert one strip of twine or cording through each set of holes facing each other on the center panel and on the left panel. Leave 1 inch of space between the two PVC panels, and tie the ends of each cord together to join the panels. Follow the same process to join the center panel to the panel on the right side. Trim the excess twine or cord.
