How to Get Effects on iChat
If you own a Mac, you’ve probably spent some time playing with the effects in Photo Booth. What you may not know is that you can get these same effects in iChat. IChat’s features include instant messaging, audio conferencing and video chatting, with effects available in the video feature. Applying effects to your video chats is simple, and you can even create custom backgrounds with your own photos.

Open iChat on your Mac.

Find a contact in your buddy list who's online and available for video chat.

Click the video camera icon next to the buddy’s username to initiate a video chat. You must be in video chat to use effects in iChat.

Click the “Effects” button in the bottom left corner of the video chat window.

Click an effect to apply it to your chat. Click the arrows in the Effects window to view different effects. To switch between effects, just click another effect in the Effects window. To remove an effect, click “Original” in the Effects window.

Tips & Warnings
To create a custom iChat background with your own photos, click the "Effects" button in iChat, and then drag and drop your photo into one of the Drag Backdrop Here slots. If you want even more effects in iChat, MoreiChatEffects is a free third-party plug-in that adds extra effects and backgrounds. Once you install MoreiChatEffects, new effects automatically appear in your Effects window in iChat.
