How to Adjust Rising Rate Fuel Regulator
A typical car has many different valves and regulators for controlling gas and oil flows. A stock fuel regulator allows a specific amount of gas to enter the vehicle's combustion chamber, effectively giving the car more power down the open road. However, car enthusiasts can control the fuel flow further by adding a second regulator, called a rising rate fuel regulator. This regulator provides more fuel to the engine when it detects the vehicle's boost needs. The rising rate fuel regulator must be adjusted properly for the best vehicle performance.
Instructions
-
-
1
Locate the rising rate fuel regulator. This regulator is typically installed on the fuel line's return side into the fuel tank.
-
2
Attach a fuel pressure gauge to the fuel line.
-
-
3
Detach the protective nut covering the adjustment screw with a wrench.
-
4
Turn the vehicle on. Allow the car to idle. Place chocks around the car's wheels to secure the vehicle in place while servicing the regulator.
-
5
Observe the idling fuel pressure displayed on the gauge. Rotate the adjustment screw 1/8th of a turn in a clockwise direction with a screwdriver.
-
6
Remove the fuel pressure gauge from the fuel line. Test drive the vehicle. Accelerate the vehicle to experience the rising rate fuel regulator's functions.
-
7
Repeat Steps 2 through 5 if the regulator does not function as desired. Each driver will have a different perception of the best rising rate regulator performance. Adjust and test drive the vehicle until the performance is adequate.

Tips & Warnings
Only adjust the screw an 1/8th of a turn for each test drive. Do not move the screw more than two complete turns total. The adjustment changes the pressure drastically with 1/8th of a turn, typically between 2 and 3 pounds. Adjust the screw counterclockwise to decrease the pressure if needed.
The vehicle's fuel is under pressure during servicing. For added protection, wear safety glasses or goggles to avoid any eye damage from fuel line leaks.
