Work in continuous rounds without joining. Round One: starting at the mouse's nose, chain two. Make six single crochet stitches in first chain.
-
2
Round Two: make one single crochet stitch in the next two stitches and two single crochet stitches in the third stitch, and repeat this pattern all the way around.
-
-
3
Round Three: make one single crochet stitch in the next three stitches, then two single crochet stitches in the fourth stitch and repeat this pattern all the way around.
-
4
Round Four: make one single crochet stitch in the next four stitches, then two single crochet stitches in the fifth stitch and repeat this pattern all the way around.
-
5
Rounds five through 12: make one single crochet in each stitch, all the way around.
-
6
Stuff the mouse, adding catnip, if making the toy for a cat.
-
7
Round 13: Decrease in each stitch around by drawing yarn through first stitch, but before finishing that stitch, leaving the loop on the hook, draw another loop through the next stitch, then draw yarn through both loops.
-
8
Round 14: Continue to decrease, until you have one stitch left on the hook. For tail, chain 20, turn, and single crochet in each chain back to the bottom of the mouse. Fasten off and weave loose yarn into tail.

9
For each ear, chain two, make four single crochet stitches in the first chain and slip stitch into the beginning chain. Fasten off, leaving a long strand for sewing onto the mouse's head.

Using black embroidery thread and needle, embroider eyes, nose and mouth on the front of the mouse.

Tips & Warnings
If you're making a toy mouse for your cat or small child, embroider all details (e.g., eyes, nose and mouth); cats and small children could choke on small buttons.
