How to Use a Gmail SMTP Server for an eNewsletter
If you have an electronic newsletter, or enewsletter, send it to your subscribers with Gmail. All you need to do is set up your email client to use Gmail's SMTP server. Every email client has a different way of configuring new accounts. However, the information that you need to enter is generally the same for all email clients.

Open your email client and go to the new account menu to add your existing Gmail account to your email client. You can use any email client, including Outlook, Thunderbird and Entourage.

Enter your complete Gmail address as your username and password. This includes your login name, "@" and "gmail.com."

Enter the password for your Gmail account.

Set the incoming mail server to "imap.gmail.com" on port 993. Select "Yes" for "Requires SSL."

Set the outgoing mail server to "smtp.gmail.com" on port 465 or 587. Select "Requires Authorization" and "Uses SSL." Click "OK."

Open your Web browser and log into your Gmail account.

Click the "Gear" icon and "Mail Settings."

Click "Forwarding and POP/IMAP."

Click "Enable IMAP" and "Save Changes." You can now use Gmail for your enewsletter.
