How to Mount a Sink on Plywood
Mounting a sink in a plywood surface is similar to adding a sink to a laminate countertop or other surface. While the laminated surfaces may be thicker the plywood usually has enough rigidity to serve as the sink support with proper bracing. The plywood sink mount may be an economical alternative to other countertops or produce a handy temporary surface to keep the kitchen or bathroom functioning during a home renovation. 1
Mark the perimeter of the sink on the top of the plywood. Place the sink upside down on the plywood or use a template, if supplied, to trace the perimeter of the sink.
-
2
Cut a hole in the plywood to accommodate the sink. This cut is usually about 1 inch inside the perimeter mark if the upside down sink was used to produce the mark. Check the design of the sink to determine the amount of lip or overhang of the sink frame from the sink side. Use a saber or jig saw to make the cuts.

3
Connect the faucet to the sink. The base of the faucet fits through holes in the sink and is fastened in place with the nuts furnished with faucet. Place the drain fitting through the drain hole and tighten it in place with a compression nut.
-
4
Turn the sink over and fit through the hole in the plywood. The lip of the sink should rest on the plywood at the edge of the hole.
-
5
Fasten the clips to the underside of the sink. The clips have screws that tighten the rim clip against the bottom of the plywood. Use wood blocks to increase the thickness of the plywood, if necessary, for the clip to fit in place.
-
6
Connect the water supply lines using flexible water lines. Attach the lines to the water supply valves and to the connections in the base of the faucet.
-
7
Fasten the drain to the drain trap under the sink. This is commonly done with a 1 1/2-inch trap adapter. This device should fit between the tailpipe portion of the drain below the sink and the pipes forming the riser above the trap. The size of the adapter will vary depending on the size of the drain and trap pipe size.
-
8
Seal the gap between the sink and the plywood with a bead of silicone caulk. Run a bead of caulk along the gap using a caulking gun. Use a fingertip to smooth the caulk into the gap.

Tips & Warnings
Seal the surface wood of the plywood with a high quality paint. Use an exterior grade plywood to prevent damage if the plywood does become wet.
