Make an ugly corkboard pretty for your daughter.

Bulletin boards are fun and useful accessories for girls to hang on their bedroom walls. Photos of friends, calendars from school and special mementos can be tacked to the board where your daughter can easily see them. Making use of colorful fabric and ribbon can help to improve the aesthetics of the corkboard, which is usually dingy brown in color. Involve your daughter and make decorative bulletin boards together for an enjoyable parent-child project.

Instructions

    • 1

Measure the bulletin board so you know how much fabric to purchase. The fabric should completely cover the front of the board, and wrap around to the back, where it will be secured.

    • 2

Choose fabric and matching or complementing colored ribbon to use to cover the bulletin board. Visit the fabric store with your daughter and pick out a pattern or color that matches her bedroom and her personality.

    • 3

Press the fabric with an iron to remove any wrinkles. Keep the iron on cool if the fabric is delicate, such as satin.

    • 4

Lay the fabric flat on a table, front side down. Place the front of the bulletin board on the back of the fabric.

    • 5

Fold the fabric around the corkboard, similar to how you wrap a present. Secure the fabric to the board with tacks, on the back of the board. Pull the fabric tight before tacking, so the front of the board is smooth and no material buckles.

    • 6

Embellish the board with ribbon, if you choose. Wrap the ribbon around the board diagonally, and tack the ends to the back of the board. Make diagonal lines going both ways, to create diamond-shaped openings to tuck pictures and momentos.
