How to Change a Picture Resolution Without Making It Distorted on a Mac

Distorted images suffer from skewed body parts and elements being narrower or wider than they should be. These problems are the result of an improper height-to-width ratio as compared to the original photo. This can be avoided when resizing or changing an image's picture resolution by keeping the aspect ratio intact and scaling the image proportionally. You can do this on your Mac's native photo-editing program, Preview.

Instructions

    • 1

Find and double-click on the picture you want to resize.

    • 2

Wait for the image to open in Preview. If Preview does not open, or it is not your default application for viewing pictures, open Preview from your "Applications" folder. Click "File" and "Open." Navigate to the picture you want to resize and press "Enter."

    • 3

Click "Tools" from the menu bar. Click "Adjust Size."

    • 4

Click the "Scale Proportionally" check-box, if it isn't already, so that your picture will not distort. Preview will automatically calculate the opposite dimension's value.

    • 5

Change the value in the "Width" or "Height" field, whichever is more important to you.

    • 6

Click "OK" to resize the image. If you are using OS X 10.7, close your image and it will save automatically. If you are using an earlier version of OS X, click "File" and "Save."
