Dress for the weather so that you are not uncomfortable during the photography session.

Tell the world that you're engaged with photos announcing the engagement. You may want to put a photo in the newspaper and put the engagement photos in a photo book to keep. You may use a professional photographer to take your engagement picture or have a friend take pictures. Either way, make the pictures a reflection of yourselves. Dress comfortably and show the real you, whether that means dressing up or casually.

Instructions

    • 1

Wear solid-colored clothing. Avoid stripes and large patterns, which can be too distracting.

    • 2

Coordinate colors without matching each other exactly. Wear clothes that are in complementary colors, or colors in the same scheme, but not the exact same hue. For example, don't wear shirts that are the same color, but if the bride wears a blue blouse, the groom can wear a tie in the same color.

    • 3

Dress for the weather. Don't wear a summer dress in the autumn or you will be cold and uncomfortable, which may ruin the pictures. If you know you'll be outside, dress according to the season.

    • 4

Dress in attire that suits both of you. If you both like to dress up, then the groom can wear a suit or tuxedo and the bride can wear a formal dress. If you're both comfortable in business causal, the groom can sport khakis and a polo shirt while the bride can wear dress slacks and a top she likes.

    • 5

Avoid wearing T-shirts. They may be comfortable, but a polo shirt will look nicer. If you want to wear jeans, be sure you are both wearing them and wear ones that are in good condition.

    • 6

Avoid loose-fitting clothing, which will make you look heavier than you are. Avoid tight-fitting clothing that will show curves you may not want to show. Stay away from jersey knits, which will hug your body and reveal too much.

    • 7

Wear heels if you are going to have a full-length photograph. Heels will make you look taller and slimmer.

    • 8

Wear classic clothing. Avoid trendy outfits that will go out of style and date your photographs.

Tips & Warnings

  • Consider wearing jewel-colored clothing. Deep burgundy, green, red and blue in jewel tones complement everyone's skin tone and coloring.

  • Avoid large, clunky jewelry.

  • Avoid changing your hairstyle or makeup for the pictures. You want to look like yourself.
