Instructions

    • 1

Lay open a child's-size black cotton robe on a flat work surface. Open the two front flaps of the robe and roll the sleeves 5 inches upward. Coat the inside of each flap and the top side of the 5-inch folded sleeves with purple fabric paint using a sponge brush. Allow two hours for the paint to dry. Flip the robe over. Paint the backside of the 5-inch portion of the folded sleeves. Allow an additional two hours for the robe to dry.

    • 2

Place two 18-by-18-inch cotton fabric black cotton isosceles triangles atop one another. Adjust the triangles so all edges are flush. Stitch one of the 18-inch sides together using a straight stitch pattern and allowing for a 1/8-inch seam. Stitch one half of the second 18-inch side together using a straight stitch pattern and allowing for a 1/8-inch seam.

    • 3

Open the unstitched half of the remaining 18-inch side. Center the edges of the two open flaps atop the top edge of the robe. Stitch the open flap edges into the top edge of the robe using a cross stitch pattern and allowing for a 1/8-inch seam.

    • 4

Stitch one 2-inch black button to the edge of the left robe flap 3 inches below the neckline. Stitch a second 2-inch black button to the end of the right robe flap 3 inches below the neckline.

    • 5

Tie a 2-inch-wide loop into the left end of an 11-inch black cord. Tie a 2-inch-wide loop into the right end of the same cord. Wrap the left loop around the left robe button. Secure the right loop around the opposite button once the child is wearing the robe.
