How to Make a Tissue Holder for a Purse

How to Make a Tissue Holder for a Purse thumbnail
You can make a convenient, cloth tissue holder for your purse.

A tissue holder will keep loose tissues from cluttering your purse. It will also protect your tissues from germs, dirt or items in your purse that may tear them, and children and adults can use cloth tissue holders, since they are made of soft fabric. Kids will have fun borrowing a tissue holder from your purse even if they need the tissues because they are sick or crying. You can show off your tissue holder to friends or family when you offer them tissues.

Instructions

    • 1

Lay the cardboard in the middle of the patterned outer fabric of the tissue holder. Place the end of the ruler perpendicular to the middle of one side of the cardboard. Mark the fabric with the chalk at the 1-inch mark. Repeat this process on each side of the cardboard.

    • 2

Place the patterned piece of fabric in the middle of the solid-colored lining fabric. Cut along the edge of the patterned fabric with the scissors, so both pieces of fabric are the same size. Cut out a piece of double-sided adhesive that is the same size as the fabric pieces. Lay the adhesive on the inner side of the solid-colored fabric and put the patterned fabric on top of it. Iron each side of the stack of fabric and adhesive, so the fabric pieces stick together.

    • 3

Lay the cardboard on top of the fabric pieces. Cut around the edges of the cardboard so the fabric is the same size as the cardboard. Mark the middle of each 7-inch side of the patterned fabric with chalk. Fold each 6-inch side of the fabric pieces inward until the edges touch where you marked the fabric with chalk.

    • 4

Pin the folded edges of the fabric with the sewing pins. Cut an 18-inch piece of thread and thread the needle with it. Knot the ends of the thread together. Insert the needle one-fourth of an inch from one corner of a 7-inch edge of fabric. Pull the needle until the knot at the end of the thread touches the fabric. Sew a straight line of stitches to the opposite corner of the same 7-inch side of fabric.

    • 5

Hold the needle away from the fabric and cut the thread 1 inch above the fabric. Tie a knot in the end of the thread that is attached to the fabric. Thread the needle with a new 18-inch piece of thread, and repeat this process on the other 7-inch edge of fabric. Turn the tissue holder inside out so the patterned fabric is on the outside.
