How to Avoid Bubbling in Decoupage
A common problem when working with decoupage is the development of tiny bubbles in the medium sealing the piece. Once the medium is completely dry, the bubbles will be set for good and there will be no way to remove them. Even seasoned decoupage artists experience this problem occasionally and are vigilant for signs that bubbles are starting to form. But there are steps you can take to decrease the likelihood that your work will be plagued with this problem.

1
Work on a day with low humidity. Bubbles are caused by trapped moisture, so the more moisture there is the more bubbles will be trapped.
-
2
Dry the piece under a fan to help the moisture evaporate before the decoupage medium traps it.

3
Add multiple thin layers of decoupage medium instead of one thick layer. If you try to rush the project by applying a thick coat, it will take much longer to dry and you'll likely have many bubbles. Let each layer dry completely, for at least two hours, before applying the next layer.

Tips & Warnings
Keep an eye on your piece while it is drying. If you see a bubble form, poke it with a straight pin to pop it and it should even out on its own as long as you catch it before it is dry.
