How to Make a Basin Wrench
Plumbers and do-it-yourselfers know how useful a basin wrench is when it comes to removing faucets during sink repair and maintenance projects. The basin wrench features a unique design that allows it to fit behind a sink and securely grasp the nut and faucet for removal. Normally, there is not enough clearance behind a sink for a crescent wrench or channel locks, which is what makes the basin wrench necessary. Anyone who needs a basin wrench doesn't need to buy a complete version of the tool; several attachments allow a ratchet drive to be made into a basin wrench. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Examine the ratchet drive before purchasing a basin wrench attachment. Most attachments fit a 3/8-inch ratchet drive. If your ratchet is of a different size, it may be necessary to purchase the correct size in order to use the attachment.
-
2
Install the attachment on the ratchet drive by inserting the square hole on the basin wrench attachment onto the male socket fitting on the end of the ratchet drive. It should snap into place; if you have to force it, the ratchet may be of the wrong size. Refer to the instructions included with the attachment or speak to a hardware store employee if you have any questions.

Adjust the angle of the basin wrench attachment to the degree that best fits your project. It may take a few adjustments to find the angle that works best behind your sink. Make sure to remove the supply lines from the faucet before attempting to use or adjust the basin wrench.
