Measure the length and width of your bookshelf. You will need these measurements in order to find a curtain that is wide enough and long enough to cover the bookshelf.

Insert a curtain tension rod either through the loops or hem on the curtain. If your curtain has ties to secure it in place, you will simply fasten the ties around the curtain rod.

3
Place one end of the tension rod against the inside wall of the top portion of the bookshelf.
-
4
Extend the other end of the tension rod as you hold the initial end in place. Stretch out the other end of the rod until it is pressing against the opposite inner wall of the bookshelf.

Tips & Warnings
While you could drill into and IKEA bookshelf and install hardware for a bracket style curtain rod, you would risk damaging the surface of the bookshelf. IKEA bookshelves are made of particle board and veneer, which sometimes fracture under the stress of a drill or a screw.
