How to Change the Sanding Sleeve on a Spindle Sander
Spindle sanders have a revolving post in the center that is covered with a sandpaper tube to enable you to have both hands free to hold onto your project. A spindle sander is essential for complicated projects such as those with curves. They are also essential for sanding holes cut inside of the project that are not easily managed with other types of sanders. To keep the sander functioning at its best, it is necessary to change the sanding drum any time it becomes worn or when you need a finer grit to the paper.

1
Use the wrench to loosen the hex nut that is located on the top of the spindle. For replacing the sleeves on the steel spindles, loosen the arbor nut. The size of the wrench you need will depend on the manufacturer and model of your spindle sander.
-
2
Remove the old sanding sleeve by lifting it up and off of the drum. If you have trouble removing the sleeve, you can cut it off.

-
3
Clean any debris, dusts or particles from the spindle and the arbors. This ensures smooth operation and reduces any damage that can be caused from the debris while the machine operates.
-
4
Place the new sleeve onto the sander. Align the new sleeve so that it doesn’t overhang the spindle or your projects, otherwise the sander could get damaged. If not aligned properly, the sleeve may rip or tear during operation.
-
5
Tighten the nuts that you loosened earlier using the wrench. Tighten the nut completely so that it does not loosen during normal operation of the machine.
