How to Record to Amplitude From an iPad

Amplitude allows you to save your recordings to the iPad.

Amplitude -- or Amplitude Pro, as the iPad version is known -- is an iOS application that records ambient sounds using the device's built-in microphone, then amplifies it to help you pick out quiet or distant noises. To better hear the recordings, Amplitude recommends the use of headphones attached to your iPad during playback. However, many iPad headphones have a built-in microphone, which will limit the application's ability to pick up ambient sounds. For best performance, ensure Amplitude is recording audio from the microphone on the iPad's casing.

Instructions

    • 1

Tap the Amplitude app on your iPad's Home screen to launch it.

    • 2

Tap the red "Record" button on the screen to begin recording audio to the app.

    • 3

Adjust the "Microphone Boost" slider on the screen to increase or decrease the volume of the audio that Amplitude is recording. Depending on the distance or quietness of the ambient sounds, experiment with the slider to obtain the optimal recording level.

    • 4

Tap the "Stop" button -- which replaces the "Record" button during recording -- to stop recording to the Amplitude app. The recording is automatically saved to the iPad.

Tips & Warnings

  • Use the on-screen spectrum analyzer to help obtain the optimal recording level.

  • Point the microphone in the direction of any sounds you want to record to the Amplitude app. Identify the microphone by the small hole on the top edge of the iPad, next to the headphone socket.
