How to Hook Up a Shower to a Bathtub Faucet
Older homes and apartments may only be equipped with a bathtub sans shower head. Unless the pipe work for a shower was installed before the walls near the tub were built, it is necessary to tear down one of the walls to add a shower to the bathroom, which is a long and costly process. To avoid incurring these plumbing costs while still enjoying the convenience and water-saving features of a shower, you can attach a faucet-to-shower head assembly directly to your bathtub's faucet. Does this Spark an idea?

Read the shower head's instructions carefully to familiarize yourself with the product's specific installation requirements. Screw the shower head's hose into the bathtub's faucet if it is a screw-on type. Wrap the hose's threads with Teflon tape if you have problems with leaking, then screw it back in place. Tighten the hose with a pair of pliers. If the shower head is a slip-on, place the rubber gasket over the faucet, using pliers to pull it in place if you can't manage it using just your fingers.

Screw the shower head onto the opposite end of the hose if it isn't already attached. Wrap the threads with Teflon tape if you have issues with leaking.

Attach the shower head's holder to your bathtub's wall. Moisten the holder's suction cups, then press it to the wall. Some holders hook onto the shower curtain rod instead of attaching to the wall using suction cups; in this case, simply hook it over the curtain rod, then hang the shower head in the holder.

Tips & Warnings
Purchase a shower head unit that is specifically designed to attach to your bathtub's faucet. Some faucet-to-shower head assemblies screw onto threads inside the faucet, while others slip over the faucet with a rubber gasket. It is important to choose a shower head that can connect to your faucet type, otherwise the water will leak and you'll get very poor water pressure.
The shower head's performance will be poor if your bathtub's faucet has low water pressure or if there is a leak where the hose and faucet connect.
